Directors: Prince, Michael Ballhaus (uncredited)
Stars: Prince, Jerome Benton, Kristin Scott Thomas.

17 songs in the Soundtracks, all written by Prince, 2 with co-writer John L. Nelson, his father. The only familiar one: Kiss. Very few were performed onscreen; maybe only 1 during the film.

Rated 5.0 by 2.7k+ IMDb voters. I wanted to like this more.

The look is very nice, definitely imitating the most beautiful art deco films of the 30's, yet the cars are fairly contemporary (his looks like 70s era), and we have a jet at the airport and boomboxes.

The plot is familiar territory: rich girl's father wants her to marry to enhance the family, but she wants independence, and falls for Prince. But their behavior doesn't make for a watchable romance: too erratic, trying to be erotic. I didn't get much comedy from this either.

Maybe subsequent viewings will decrease my disorientation and improve my rating.

This is the only director (un)credit for Ballhaus (b. '35); he's a cinematographer who worked on several Scorsese films after this. Most of his work before this seems to be German.

4 music videos of songs in the film are extras on the dvd.
