Olive, the Other Reindeer (1999), 6-

G | 45min | Animation, Comedy, Family | TV Movie 17 Dec 1999
When Santa cancels his annual flight because of a hurt reindeer, a young Christmas loving dog named Olive is convinced she has what it takes to get Santa's flight off the ground and save Christmas.
Director: Steve Moore
Stars: Drew Barrymore, Dan Castellaneta, Joe Pantoliano, Edward Asner.

Watched online, ok print.

4 songs in the Soundtracks, all Written by Matt Groening, who exec produced. Fairly sentimental stuff from him.

Barely qualifies as "feature" length by IMDb standards: at least 45min.

Cute, but I don't imagine I'll crave seeing it again.

Santa doesn't actually cancel his flight. He leaks to the press that he might, unless he can rely on "Oll of" the other reindeer. Get it: homonyms "all of" and "Olive". The unusual dog who loves Xmas is persuaded by friend Fido the flea to go help.

Santa nemesis The Postman has been writing nasty letters as children who hate Santa, which discourages him. And TP also tries to prevent Olive from reaching Santa. While at the North Pole, he exchanges Santa's bag of deliverable gifts with a sack of junk mail.

When Santa agrees to let Olive harness in, and gets to his first stop, he discovers the bad cargo. But Olive can use her superior doggy sense of smell to find TP, get the right sack, and speed the deliveries to their destinations.

Along the way we also get a zoo penguin who's a small-time fraudster (selling fake Rolexxx's), but helps Olive, especially in subduing TP.

Shrugworthy.
