Fascinating story; synopsis above omits the young matron (on the right of the poster; ailing cousin is on the left), whom the Captain loves during most of the play. The fascinating part: why does the Captain immediately shift his allegiance from the young pretty woman (when she severs their romance) to the woman who has given him unwanted attention to the point of stalking him.
Today I watched the film 3 times, with the middle audio being the c.track.
I've ordered the antecedent '81 Italian film (with English subtitles), and hope to watch this again when it arrives, hopefully outlining the chronology of how the Captain is reacting to each woman so I can capture the point (and reasons) when his attitude completely changes.
All 3 principles have gorgeous voices, but Jere Shea, as the Captain, impressed me repeatedly. He sounds great when he sings broadly or intimately. Unfortunately, if IMDb is accurate, he has no other musical films recorded.
Rated 8.1 by 254 IMDb voters.
