MGM: When the Lion Roars (1992), 7 {nm}

6h | Documentary | TV Mini-Series (1992)
The history of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios.
Stars: Patrick Stewart, Samuel Marx, June Allyson, ...

Turner owned the MGM catalog by the time this was made, and his network made & aired it. So this is something of a commercial for his own product, but it talks about the decline of MGM with frankness.

I kept active by cataloging on IMDb the movies edited into each of the 3 episodes; roughly 40 per 2h chunk. Even more films were mentioned, if only in montage, but I was able to mostly keep pace with watching & cataloging without pausing; to get the montage stuff would take lots of pauses.

6h is a lot of time; usually better to watch 3-4 actual films, but since all the films were pre-65, it's good to think about the oldies while in the midst of so much post-65 cr@p.

The 3 episodes roughly cover 1) silent & 30's, 2) 30-40's 3) post-war. Here are the films clipped:
Ep3: The Lion in Winter

Musicals were covered throughout, but I'd guess fewer than half the films mentioned were musicals, perhaps even fewer than a third.
