This is Rita's 31st film, but her first after her breakout role in Only Angels Have Wings ('39). She's warm and fun, acts well, looks good with TM. (Still has her original hairline, or close to it.)
Eric Blore and Alan Mowbry add well to the plot, both the comedy and the drama, and especially to the ending.
TM sings well and often. RH (b. 1918) only wiggles a little, shot only from the hips up, starting ~45 minutes into the film. She's dancing for joy at becoming engaged to the man she loves; that dance should have been more exuberant and demonstrative, especially given her dancing talents. Oh, well, she dances with Fred Astaire in '41 and '42.
Perhaps I'm prejudiced: I like RH. So maybe I'm being too generous. But I think TM acts better here than usual; perhaps he enjoyed the cast, and/or the billing.
