Broadway Melody of 1940 (1940), 8+

Johnny Brett and King Shaw are an unsuccessful dance team in New York. A producer discovers Brett as the new partner for Clare Bennett, but Brett, who thinks he is one of the people they lent money to gives him the name of his partner.
1h 42min | Musical | 9 February 1940 | b/w
Director: Norman Taurog
Stars: Fred Astaire, Eleanor Powell, George Murphy, Frank Morgan, Ian Hunter.
Bobby Connolly ... dances
Albertina Rasch ... additional choreographer (uncredited)

In the Tap! Appendix for FA, GM & EP, of course.

The only pairing of FA & EP. The last Broadway Melody of 4, all but the original starring EP. Serviceable plot (synopsis should say 'owe' instead of 'lent'); appropriate that no other genre has been applied.

A bonanza of dancing (8 numbers):
  • Ch 3, FA & GM: Please Don't Monkey with Broadway
  • Ch 5, EP solo: All Ashore [called I Am the Captain on the dvd menu]
  • Ch 11, EP & GM: Between You and Me
  • Ch 17, FA solo: I've Got My Eye on You [Eyes plural on dvd menu]
  • Ch 18, EP & FA: Jukebox Dance
  • Ch 21, EP ballet solo, then EP & FA: I Concentrate on You
  • Ch 24-5, EP & FA: Begin the Beguine
  • Ch 26 of 26, EP, FA & GM: I've Got My Eye[s] on You
GM looked least comfortable when moving slowly in dance with EP (it was NOT a tap number), but had comfort/confidence with big fast movement, and when tapping.
