borrowed dvd

8 songs in the Soundtracks, all Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Glenn Slater and performed by the cast.

Very good modern adaptation of the original fairy tale. Rapunzel is reasonably confident, especially for a girl who's only lived in a tower, never leaving it.

DM as the false mother has a couple of songs, and impressed me a lot with one of them. But she's Fosca in Passion ('96), so I shouldn't be surprised.

Lots of humor, good characterization. Only minor bonus features on the dvd, and nothing in trivia about this: the animation must be motion capture, because the characters move wonderfully (emotions).

I wonder if I'll like it as much on subsequent viewings, or was it the surprises/innovations/creativity that I liked so much. Time will tell. Ordered a copy for my collection.

Here's the list of the first 50 Disney animated feature films, as shown in the featurette.
