G | 1h 14min | | 2 July 1986

Genres: Animation | Adventure | Family | Musical | Mystery

Watched online, good print.

3 songs and a reprise in the Soundtracks, hardly enough for the genre Musical, but there it is.

Started off promising with all the Holmes echoes, and Basil living at the Holmes address (Holmes is seen in silhouette.) But then the villain got very un-Moriarty-ish, and I lost interest.

Made me wonder if there's been a Sherlock musical. Yup, 1988, music, lyrics & book by Leslie Bricusse. And another in '65 on B'way.

The dog in the poster is the pet/helper of Basil. Vincent Price voices (one guess) the villain, but not so you're always painfully aware it's him.

Moriarty, er, Ratigan's helper is a peg-legged bat with a broken wing, who manages to fly nonetheless. And yet, when Ratigan sings about what a great villain he is, we have a room full of people, er, mice. He couldn't find a better assistant than a disabled bat?

Maybe this should be a 5 for me.  Rated 7.2 with almost 39k votes on IMDb. <Shrug>
