Miss Sadie Thompson (1953), 5+ Color, WS

A self-righteous missionary man seeks to save the soul of a former prostitute.
1h 31min | Drama, Musical, Romance | 23 December 1953 | Color, WS
Director: Curtis Bernhardt
Stars: Rita Hayworth, José Ferrer, Aldo Ray.
Lee Scott ... choreographer

Filmed in 3D, but not this print. The quality of the print is lacking (grainy), and it may be because it was made from a 3D version.

4 songs in Soundtracks, 3 sung by RH (dubbed), the 4th is a Marine chorus.

I would never suggest this is a musical: too few songs and they're just RH trying to entertain herself by entertaining a bevy of Marines. The dancing is filmed up close, because she is in close quarters with the men. The emphasis in on their reaction to her, and the dancing amounts to wriggling, no more.

I've see the Walter Huston/Joan Crawford version years ago, and knew he strayed, but didn't remember the ending for those characters. I can understand why clergy would want to ban this story.

This is ok. RH & AR give good performances. I'm not impressed with JF; if only we could splice Walter Huston into this instead. There are better films with all 3 principals.
