Watched on AmazonPrime.

17 songs in the Soundtracks.

1st film credit for Rae Dawn Chong, the only familiar face. She's a backup singer.

Because I like R&B, and they play a lot of music, this is a pleasant film. Not great, just pleasant.

It has some rough edges, with the sax player having an abusive in-law where he lives & works (day job).

Another rough edge: the man helping the band gets fired then dies, then his former boss also dies, and the handling of the remains of each is eyebrow-raising (perhaps because I didn't understand what they did, perhaps because I did.)

Most of the acting is amateurish, but not painfully so.

Some of the gorgeous Chicago architecture is included for ambience, but not much.

It's mostly about the music, man.
