The reason they turn Sach into a fighter is to earn a match purse for the girl singer (GR) they're crushed on; her mother is sick and she needs to quit her job to take caretake. When the mother recovers, they decide they could use the cash themselves. GR sings 2 songs (per the Soundtracks). That's not enough to qualify for a musical in my estimation, but I won't fight it. I'll just take it off my master list of musicals.

I know the Bowery Boys plenty well from my childhood, and contemplated skipping this because I don't like them. But I wanted to know about the "musical" qualification.
