Super sentimental. Her deafness comes from meningitis, which she caught from her dad as a kid, and he died in front of her. His mother died of cancer 4 years earlier, after a prolonged battle. After they spend a lot of time together, her mother breaks them apart (she's 21 and in school, so summer break affords that opportunity.) She even intercepts letters (with the aid of the interpreter.) Then one day he collapses. Turns out he has terminal brain cancer. Then the girl gets a cochlear implant, and he dies. She enrolls in a small music school. The End.

From IMDb Trivia: "Kent Moran based much of the story on his real life experiences. He started out as a singer/songwriter, his uncle is deaf, and several of his family members have died from cancer. The movie is dedicated to Nicole Dwyer, the cousin of Kent Moran. She passed away at 18 years old after a long battle with cancer. She was Kent's main inspiration to write the movie." He has many credits since this, through this year.
