I didn't read any synopsis beforehand and found this easy to follow. The producers of the broadcast introduced each of the principals in costume with both the name of the artist and their character. And the characters look and sound different. The plot is not overly complex, and none of the twists are so bizarre that I wondered where it came from.
This is the home of famous aria "La donna e mobile" (woman is fickle), sung by the Duke in Act III. One of Gilda's arias sounded familiar too.
The bad guys get no justice here. Tragedy only befalls the already downtrodden hunchbacked jester Rigoletto and his innocent daughter.
I look forward to watching the other copy I purchased, which is a film, while this is a televised stage presentation.
