Watched online, blurry VHS copied.
Nothing listed in the Soundtracks, but I recognize most of the 14 songs in the '66 film Soundtrack. Big hits: Once in a Life Time and What Kind of Fool Am I?
On 2014-10-30 I rated the '66 film 5. I don't remember much about it, but the leads are white. So at least one adaptation is to acknowledge that SD is American and black, and is involved with a (much taller) British white woman (MM) (there's a song about being British).
The story is about SD marrying MM because he got her pregnant, then finding out she's the daughter of his boss, allowing him ample opportunities for advancement, sometimes the hard way. He has affairs along the way with women played by MM. The show supposedly gets introspective, but I didn't get much of that.
The main reason to watch this is to hear SD sing, and you can do that elsewhere. Lovely YouTube has links to 2 SD concerts that aren't listed on IMDb, and that's just from the page with this film.
