Let's Make Love (1960), 7+

When billionaire Jean-Marc Clement learns that he is to be satirized in an off-Broadway revue, he passes himself off as an actor playing him in order to get closer to the beautiful star of the show, Amanda Dell.
1h 59min | Comedy, Musical, Romance | 8 September 1960 | Color, WS
Director: George Cukor
Stars: Marilyn Monroe, Yves Montand, Tony Randall, Frankie Vaughan, Wilfrid Hyde-White, Milton Berle, Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly.
Jack Cole ... staging of musical numbers

8 songs in the Soundtracks, some without performers.

Charming use of MM & YM.

Penultimate film for MM. I don't think I'll watch the last: The Misfits ('61).

YM shifts from wanting her, to wanting her to want him for "himself", without his power and business skills. But she is involved, perhaps maternally, with FV, and he needs to get more opportunity. So he hires 3 tutors to help improve his show biz skills, and escallate his part to have a song with her, where they must kiss. Along the way he bought the theatre in which they rehearse, and 51% of the show via WH. Amazing that he could take so much time away from his business concerns, and take WH away too. I'm not sure if, at the end, he proposed marriage, or merely implied it. Cute the way he has to convince her that he is the rich guy he's been impersonating.

6th of 7 films for FV. I'd bet the others are British, since he is, and they are all unfamiliar title to me.

Previously rated 7 on 2006-01-02; I'm almost inclined to bump it to 8. I'll wait for another viewing.
