Queen: Rock the World (2017), 7+

2017 film with mostly 1977 footage of recording and touring for the News of the World album, and a song from the 2017 tour with Adam Lambert.
59min | Documentary, Music | October 2017 (UK)
Director: Christopher Bird
Stars: John Deacon, Bob Harris, Brian May, Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor.

I wanted to move something of moderate length from dvr to dvd, and this seemed a good preview of how converting a dvr'd opera might work. This was also aired on PBS (complete with 30 extra min of pledge breaks), although it is not 16:9 (more like 4:3). [Note to self: don't forget you can put the file on usb to preview how well it recorded and converted.] I think mp4 looks better than mkv format, and compressing to "web-friendly" doesn't lose much if any quality, at least on my TV.

At this point in their career (the band formed in '70), Punk had become popular, their concerts were fan-driven (audience singing along to everything), and that inspired the writing of their 2 big hits, the openers of this album, and making the songs more spontaneous and less super-produced than prior albums.

Not every song is played in the doc'y, but the album consists of:
  • "We Will Rock You"
  • "We Are the Champions"
  • "Sheer Heart Attack"
  • "All Dead, All Dead"
  • "Spread Your Wings"
  • "Fight from the Inside"
  • "Get Down, Make Love"
  • "Sleeping on the Sidewalk"
  • "Who Needs You"
  • "It's Late"
  • "My Melancholy Blues"
It's been a while since I've watched a behind-the-scenes doc'y on Queen, so it was good to see the lads again.
