The significance of the small number of films watched from '31 and '32: for '31, only 29 total come up in my search for Musicals, many have no plot summary, but all have votes. I don't remember if I searched for videos online. 1932 has only 12 musicals total. I wonder how many films should be classified as musicals, but are not. Contrast that with 75 Music/Musical titles in '37.
Although I started giving some 4's in '36 and '37, in a lot of ways I think I'm getting more tolerant rather than more rigid about finding things to like about a musical. A lot more films are available online. 14 of the 42 in '37 were online or in one of my megapacks of public domain films. Three of those rated 4 were in that subset; the 4th was a bonus disk that came with a documentary. Similarly, in 1935, 15 of 37 titles were online or in megapack, both 4's were among them. BTW, each year had a 7 among the online/megapack group.
